Elmwood Golfing Society (EGS) was established in 1998. The same year as the course was officially opened. As with the course EGS has developed and matured over the years. It is an open and inclusive society with both male and female golfers. The current membership ranges in age and ability from the current course record holder to less enviable feats of quintuple bogey’s and beyond.
Regardless of ability all members share a passion for the game. The EGS works closely with Elmwood Golf and has guaranteed tee times for both midweek and weekend competitions. The Gents weekend medal is held on Sunday’s and Ladies on Saturday’s. It is drawn by ballot weekly and is an ideal way to meet other members of the society. Simply put your name on the sign in sheet or express your interest to play to a member of the committee and you will be allocated a tee time and playing partners accordingly. Traditionally our summer season begins in March with The Captain vs Vice Captain Texas Scramble and concludes in October with The Captain vs Vice Captain match and prize giving.
Complementing our successful summer calendar of stroke play events there are our matchplay competitions to get those competitive juices flowing. These highly competitive events take the form of singles, fourballs and mixed fourballs. Another fantastic way to meet members of our friendly society. The course is open all year round and so is the society. The winter calendar and eclectic allow those with a stronger constitution to play competitive golf all year round.
With the introduction of the World Handicap System a membership with Elmwood Golfing Society will enable you to hold a recognised handicap that is transferable anywhere in the world. If you have joined the course then join the club. Although membership of the course is by no means a requirement to be a member of Elmwood Golfing Society.
We are always delighted to welcome new members. You can pick up a membership form from Elmwood Golf reception. For further information please get in touch via our Facebook page by clicking on the link: https://www.facebook.com/ElmwoodGolfingSociety
Testimonials and photos.
“Having originally joined Elmwood Golf in 2009 I found that whilst it was a lovely course I did not play much as I did not know anyone. I did not renew my membership. However in 2013 I re-joined the course and this time joined EGS. I have not looked back. It is a relaxed society for the modern game and would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone. It helps keep golf fun and it is nice to be part of a friendly society.”

“I joined Elmwood Golf Society as a reason to try and play regular weekly golf and improve my game in 2019. At the time, I did not know any of the members at the club but have always been made to feel very welcome from the first day I visited to enquire about it and to meet the members through club rounds at Elmwood Golf Course. I highly recommend anyone to join the society who is looking to improve their golf and to also get to know the many members within the club.”
