Winter Greens
We strive to keep the course on full greens all year round. The only times we will use winter greens is when we have a thaw on the surface but the ground remains frozen down below as this can cause excessive damage to the turf which impacts the quality of the surfaces at the start of the playing season.
Condition Where We May Close The Course
Snow - The course will close
Strong Winds - The course will close
Heavy Fog - The course will close until the fog lifts
Ice on surfaces - The course will close
Flooding - The course will close
Lightning - The course will close until the lightning passes
Heavy fog is defined by the fog marker on the entrance road not being visible from the clubhouse entrance.
Flooding is defined as standing water on the greens making them unplayable
Ice on surfaces is defined by ice being present on the surfaces making them dangerous to play from
Strong winds are defined as when strong gusts risk blowing players off their feet or potential to cause trees to shed branches
The final decision on the playability of the course rests with the most senior member of staff on duty.
The decision to close the course is taken only when absolutely necessary, in order to minimise the risk of incidents and to prevent damage to the turf, which can have a long lasting effect. This will enable us to maintain the course in the best possible condition all year round.
